OBESITY

 obesity iSSUES IN THE military  

Department of Defense has to recruit approximately 190,000 new military personnel every year.  In order to replace personnel getting out of the service.   Roughly 27% of today's young adults are to obese to serve in the military causing concerns about the future of the military.  Disqualification for Obesity are higher than the second reason of drugs (Hunter, 2013). 

 

Within the Services:

  - Data is based on the BMI scale.  7.8% of the entire military has a BMI  that is high.

           - Army leads the way.  With 1 in 10 soldier considered clinically overweight. 

           - Air Force is a close second.

           - Navy is third.

           - Marines are fourth and considered the fittest of the services (Tilghman, 2016).
